2005 Celebrations

The Launch

The first celebration of Daisy for Disability Day in 2005 was a great success, significantly exceeding our expectations. Endeavour Patron, the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, launched the day at the Kingaroy Business Service, with families, friends, supporters, and clients attending the formal function. The day also proved a great opportunity for local MPs and Politicians to see what Endeavour is all about.

The success of the launch carried through to the official day, one week later, when Endeavour services throughout Queensland had their own celebrations to highlight the achievements of their supported employees and clients.

The Day

Many services were visited by family groups, corporate supporters, suppliers and customers, as well as local dignitaries. Endeavour staff, supported employees and clients throughout the state enthusiastically hosted morning teas and tours, and relished the opportunity to “show-off” their professionalism in their day-to-day work.

North Queensland had great successes with the Cairns, Townsville, and Home Hill Services hosting events with visits from Members of Parliament Julie Attwood, Rosa-Lee Long, and Rosemary Menkins, and Senator Jan McLucas, the Federal Shadow Minister for Ageing, Disabilities and Carers. Further south, Toowoomba was a resounding success with families and visitors queuing for 45 minutes for a tour of the Business Service. For some families this was a great opportunity to see what their family members achieve on a daily basis. In Brisbane, the Wacol Business Service welcomed 200 guests through their doors.

Daisy for Disability Day showcased potential opportunities for local special school leavers and was a great vehicle to reconnect the Endeavour community.
